REFLECTIONS

Experience
Overall, I actually had a pretty pleasant experience throughout this module. I feel like the skills I've been taught have become more natural, as in my everyday life I find it easier to analyse typographic works. The workload didn't feel overly heavy, I enjoyed the assignments and I managed to produce results that I'm not disappointed in. Of course, I think there are areas I could have done better or spent more time on, but I don't think that what I've produced is horrible, and that's good too.

I hope to be able to continue to improve in typography, even though I don't tend to pursue it strongly in my future career, as a designer it's nearly unavoidable.

Observations
My time management this semester, in terms of this module, wasn't actually that bad. Especially due to the setbacks I experienced in the beginning of the semester, I'm happy that I was able to mostly keep up. There is still room for improvement, but I will acknowledge my small victories.

I've also gotten to see how differently people think. A lot of our assignment briefs this semester were vague, where we are given the general outline of what to do but a lot of what we do is our own path. From choosing our own image for our Task 2, to creating a wordmark for our own brand, to coming up with our own idea for our final task, people think differently.

Findings
That advice from Dr Phil Cleaver was helpful. To hear someone tell me that I should retain that childish imagination even as a professional designer is nice. And that advice has helped me in random bursts in the following assignments. It helped me allow myself to pursue more fantastical ideas instead of settling or following the trend.

As a result, I've found that following my strengths, even if it's the lesser taken path, is not something to avoid like the plague. This particularly relates to my final assignment, where I chose to do something experimental rather than simply create a font.
