INSTRUCTIONS

Flip Presentation

This was assigned to us near the beginning of the semester. For our final project, we had to create an infographic video. This flip presentation was for us to pick our topic and start researching it. This would help us compile information, and then we had to put the info into a video as our final project.

First, we created a Google Doc for us to brainstorm and list out ideas we had for what topic we wanted to cover. After we decided on the topic of 'Coffee Culture', we proceeded to do research:

We wanted to discuss three key locations: Vietnam, South America and Finland. Coffee is quite significant to these three places. Vietnam and South America are large exporters of coffee beans, and Finland is the country that consumes the most coffee.

Afterwards, we created another Google Doc to expand upon our idea. We grabbed references of other infographic videos on social media to figure out what kind of editing and graphic style we wanted. Here is also where we wrote our script and placed our storyboard. Additionally, we listed out our group members and what role they would take up in this project.

We created our slides on Canva, and we presented them on Week 6, following the schedule our lecturers had created for us.

Project 2: Infographic Video Animation

For our final project video, I was in charge of editing the video. My other teammates were in charge of writing the script and drawing the assets. Some of my other team members were also in charge of the voice-overs. These are all detailed in the storyboarding and planning document above.

First, my teammates wrote the script. Then we looked it over and agreed on what to add or remove.

One of my teammates created Live2D models of the coffee beans. These models basically work by tracking your face and moving accordingly. The ones in charge of voice-overs went over to one member's house and recorded the lines together. This was so that the Live2D program would be able to pick up their movements and this would be the animations for our coffee beans.

She and the other teammate in charge of assets also created the Brewster's human self and the coffee cup ratio diagrams. Then, my editing teammates and I sat down to discuss the editing style together. As we edited, the assets team continued to meet our requests and complete any other assets we wanted. Some images were simply taken off Google though due to time constraints.

I created each scene in separate composite shots so I wouldn't have to manage so many layers in one composite shot.

As I edited the scenes separately, I compiled them into one final composite shot. Here I added the text in the top right to indicate what location was being discussed, and I also added subtitles to the video.

Finally, we uploaded the video, compiled all that we had done and submitted the assignment.

FEEDBACK

Week 6
Specific Feedback:

- Make sure artstyle in the video is consistent
- Don't waste too much time in the animation stage, so you can finish the video
- Information in the slides is too much
- In the industry, if the presentation is too long it gives the impression that the video will also be very long
- Next time, present the voiceover content and not just put all the research content in the slides
- Maybe can refine the graphics a bit instead of taking it all from the template, to make it match your own art direction

Week 7
Specific Feedback:
- Try to trim the video to 1 minute
- Progress is good so far

REFLECTIONS

Experience
This was actually quite a good experience for working in split teams like this. By separating and delegating the work and roles, we had to have active communication with each other in order to finish the project in time. As an editor, I had to ask for assets from the asset team, and this is one example of that active communication. I appreciated this experience because it was a little different from other assignments - this felt like working in the industry with the different departments. I believe this will be valuable experience that provided valuable insight into the industry.

Observations
We were almost rushing for time a bit near the end. Despite this project technically being assigned from the beginning of the semester, there were a lot of aspects to it and that made production go on for quite a bit. I think this is an important observation that I hope to remember for future projects. With this in mind, I wish to better organise my time and make sure I remember and keep track of everything that needs to be done so that it can all be finished on time and be good quality.

Findings
I don't have to completely take on my job alone. It is okay to ask my teammates and group members for help in some things if I am unsure how to proceed or if I have no time as I have other commitments. It is thanks to my group members that things went as smoothly as they did, and I am grateful. I am glad to have been placed in a team with encouraging members. And I believe I should learn to rely on others more and not take on more work than I can chew. It is okay to accept help.
